While the first book in this series, Her Halloween Treat, was a lukewarm read for me, I loved Her Naughty Holiday. There’s nothing sexier than a hero who has his shit together, and Erick definitely fits the bill. When his first wife found out she was pregnant, he started working his ass off to support his daughter, Ruthie, and he never stopped. Clover’s work ethic fell in line with his, and it’s when Clover first takes a chance on his delinquent daughter by giving her a job that Erick’s attraction begins. I have to say that for as little as Ruthie was in this story, the young woman had a presence throughout the entire thing. At times it felt like she was at the center of it. I loved how Ruthie made the adults in her life think, and that they actually did think about what she said instead of just dismissing her thoughts and ideas.
Erick and Clover’s lust is in full force when Ruthie goes to stay with her mother for the holiday, and the plan Ruthie orchestrates is in full swing in record time. Operation fake relationship has launched. What I really liked about this story was that Erick and Clover had real issues I could relate with. Erick is struggling to raise his teenage daughter, and without a husband and children, Clover doesn’t quite measure up in her family’s eyes. But Clover and Erick find the solid support system they need in each other. Clover and Erick had amazing chemistry, and I love that Erick was always right there to list all her good qualities and help her see them. And again, Ruthie’s conversations make Erick think and contemplate his relationship with Clover. I liked that Ruthie had an influence on his decisions. It made an already loveable man even more loveable.
Her Naughty Holiday was a wonderful Thanksgiving read, and I’d definitely recommend it. I can’t wait for the final installment of Men at Work.
