Today I have a Fallback Review for you. (Which is code for I have lost myself in a new series and couldn’t be bothered to stop and review quite yet – but I will soon since I’m almost finished.) Remember When was one of the very first ARCs I received when I started blogging, and I remember feeling like I’d struck gold. I loved everything about this story! I’m featuring it today because it’s been hot as Hades where I am, and this book is a perfect pick to slip in your beach bag and read while you’re baking in the sun. (With sunscreen, hopefully!)

Some books come along at the exact moment you need them, and this book was it for me. There are no words to express how much I loved Remember When. I wanted to crawl between the pages and live in this book. It brought back so many memories from my junior high and high school years. That feeling that nothing will ever separate you from your friends, that you can do anything, that you could conquer the world if you wanted to! You know? Those last few moments of youth before the ‘real world’ steps in and rains on your parade?
It takes place in the late 80’s/early 90’s, and it was so true to the time. There was a lot of ‘era-dropping–‘ Cabbage Patch Kids (mine were Carolyn Carolina, Bella Cornelia, and Garrett Rich,) New Kids on the Block, Guns n Roses, Boone’s Farm…not to mention a reference to the ‘spaghetti arms’ scene in Dirty Dancing.
I love it when the actions of the characters reflect their ages, and I feel like they did in this book. I remember acting like these kids–though instead of tossing Skittles around my place of employment, it was frozen French fries. (My friend Al used to play the fry racks like they were a guitar – he was hilarious.)
The characters in this book were so full of life they practically leaped off the pages, and it wasn’t just the main characters. Layla and Trip’s friends were so much fun to read, and they added so much to the story.
Though this book dealt with some serious issues; it was filled with humor and those euphoric feelings that accompany first love. Layla and Trip’s story was so sweet. It had me reaching for the second book before I was even done with the first!

We twisted to our sides, facing each other, my one leg still draped across his lap.
The wakeup call would have been perfect if not for the word “DICKNOSE” written across Trip’s forehead in black marker. I guessed Cooper at long last had found an opportunity to seek out his revenge.
