Book Blurb:

Their love is forbidden, but their hearts aren’t listening to rules and regulations.

Lieutenant Dustin Strauss is a reformed man. No longer a twentysomething hell-raiser, he’s his SEAL team’s new XO-and a man with a secret. Or seven. He’s kept his bisexual identity under wraps for years, along with his kinky side and a fondness for the military-themed semianonymous hookup website Joe4Joe. His latest chat buddy is more than a sexy online distraction-they’re taking their very not-safe-for-work relationship into real time.

Petty Officer Wes Lowe has a smart mouth, a take-charge attitude and an uncanny ability for making things go boom. The life of an enlisted man isn’t always enough to satisfy him, but one wild, no-questions-asked weekend with his online love comes close. When a transfer order comes in, Wes feels ready and centered. He’ll make a good impression on his new SEAL team and keep his growing feelings for Dustin on the down low.

But as they log more time online and some very real emotions surface, Dustin and Wes struggle to pretend they’re just a harmless fling. And when his commander introduces Dustin to his team’s newest member, they’re in for the shock of a lifetime…and a crushing disappointment: their difference in ranks means even a friendship without sexual contact could end their navy careers for good.

With their hearts on the line, Dustin and Wes may not survive their next mission, let alone find a way toward a future together.

Annabeth Albert does it again! If you read my review last month for Tender with a Twist, you know she knocked it out of the park with that one. Even still, since the Out of Uniform series has been lukewarm for me, I made sure to go into Wheels Up with no expectations. Well, I’m happy to report that this is my favorite book of the series so far. Dustin and Wes absolutely stole my heart; I loved every moment of their hot little number. And trust me – it’s hot from the beginning. I was drawn to both characters, but there was something about Dustin especially that I adored. He was such a strong man, but it was his soft side that I couldn’t get enough of. I love that he wore his heart on his sleeve (no matter how much he tried not to,) and that he was so honest with himself and with Wes about what he wanted. And Wes – I adored this man his family. He was such a good guy, and I loved the fact that every ounce of trust Dustin put in him was treated with such care. The way he was in awe of the way Dustin submitted to him, and the way it floored him every single time they were together was so amazing.

I feel like writing too much about this book could give some things away, so I will just say that this was a beautiful story about sacrifice and love, and a few surprises thrown in there to keep the reader on their toes. These men were so tender with each other, and they complemented one another so well. They were both strong, but even stronger when the other one needed it, and they were so intuitive with each other. The feelings they had for each other radiated from each page, and I could not root hard enough for them. If there was just one more thing I could want from this novel, it would have been to be privy to some of Wes and Dustin’s on-line interactions before they met in person. Something tells me there was even more steam (from this already steamy novel) to be had. But rumor has it this author includes shorts in her newsletters about prior characters, so hope is not lost! Also, we got to check in with previous couples in the series, especially Apollo and Dylan as they’re Dustin’s family, and it was fun to see them again. I thought Wheels Up was a fantastic addition to this series, and I cannot wait for the next!

“You making me your blanket?” Wes’s smile was so tender that Dustin’s heart pinched—he wanted this for every damn night of his life. He wanted so much more than his sorry ass deserved.

“Don’t go. Not yet.” He wasn’t ready for this to be done, wasn’t ready for the inevitable goodbye and avalanche of guilt.

Wes didn’t answer, smile turning sad and aching, before he kissed Dustin again. And everything was in that kiss—all the feelings they dared not give name to, all the longing, all the wishes and regrets and needs, all piled together.

“I can stay awhile,” Wes whispered against his lips. It wasn’t enough, wasn’t ever going to be enough, but the boulder in Dustin’s throat wouldn’t let him speak, would only let him pull Wes even closer, kiss him that much more desperately.
